Over the months, I've come up with various ideas for Guardian fan fic, which have mostly been posted as replies to other people's comments/entries. I wanted to collect them here for (1) Posterity and (2) Accountability, in the (very unlikely) event that I'd one day want to do something with them.
(1) The SID is the best extraction team in the dreamsharing business. With their leaders - the unorthodox genius extractor Zhao Yunlan, backed up by nigh-infallible point man Shen Wei - at the helm, forgers Da Qing and Zhu Hong (who either take turns or work together, depending on the scale of the job), architect Chu Shuzhi (who's taken struggling architect Guo Changcheng under his wing as a favour to one of the ministers who help smooth their way under the police radar, but is finding the boy nigh-impossible to train) and chemist Lin Jing (brilliant but with a tendency towards occasionally-morally-dubious experimentation) tackle some of the most challenging, dangerous and lucrative jobs in the dream crime business.
When a new dreamsharing team starts to rise rapidly through the ranks, employing ruthless methods which get instant results but are wreaking havoc on the psyches of all those involved, it's up to our team to beat them to the punch on the most high-stakes job of the century: inception. But little do they know the past that the rival team's leader, Ye Zun, shares with their reclusive point man, and the complications which are in store for them three levels deep...
(2) Link to one of my own posts, because this one is damn long.
(3) Inspired by this image, originally from this twitter post - Wild West-style supernatural AU where Shen Wei is the town's clergyman who also deals with purging demons and malevolent spirits (without the Church's permission/knowledge?) and Zhao Yunlan is the beleaguered sheriff who's determined to figure out what the hell kind of racket this guy is running behind his "harmless priest" facade.
(4) ZYL is an incubus, but not really like the ones you see in horror-romance movies. He lives like a normal person for the most part - has a day job, human friends, even eats and drinks human food (with a higher-than-normal alcohol tolerance that's more of a personal adaptation than a necessary trait of the species). But he's essentially immortal, having retained his 20-something appearance for a few centuries now. The only requisite for this? He has to feed off human sexual energy at least once or twice a week. And it can't be the same person more than a few times in a row, cos otherwise the human partner starts to notice a significant energy drain on themselves.
But this suits ZYL, who's never been in love, just fine. Humans start to get the wrong idea if you sleep with them more than a couple times, after all, and he doesn't want to deal with that... Until one day his favourite bar/nightclub gains a pair of new patrons in the form of two gorgeous twins, the older obviously having been dragged there by the younger and whose only concession to the setting is to take off his suit jacket. At first ZYL just wants to hit on him the way he usually does - these prim-and-proper university professors tend to be a reservoir of pent-up desires, after all - but he's surprised to find that Shen Wei doesn't really give off that strong of a lustful aura, no matter how much effort ZYL puts into his flirting. So instead they fall into a routine where they chat over drinks until late at night, then SW goes home and ZYL goes off to find a different partner for the day. But with time they grow closer, start to drop by each other's homes for tea or dinner, and eventually ZYL even tells SW the truth about his species and why he does what he does.
And SW doesn't like the idea of ZYL with other partners one bit, but what can he do? ZYL would never prey on him now that they're friends, and if friendship is all ZYL wants from him, SW is willing to carry on this way forever. But in the meantime, ZYL notices something odd about himself: he's starting to feel tired after his nightly rendezvous. Used to be, after he's "fed" off of someone he could keep going for days without sleep, but now sex leaves him more drained than energised. Which is when he hears of an old "myth" among his kind: if an incubus/succubus falls in love, they lose the ability to feed on anyone other than the object of their affections, and also their immortality.
When SW finds this out, he's of course perfectly willing to volunteer, so to speak. ZYL agrees, but only until they find a more permanent solution, since he's worried about what the energy drain will do to SW on the long term. Cue angsty porn! And ZYL wondering why, despite SW (initially) being a bit too gentle for it to truly be the most mind-blowing sex ever (hey! They can work on it. SW can definitely be talked around to being a bit less, um, careful and considerate) he still feels more refreshed and energised than he's done after an "encounter" in decades, if not more. And...SW doesn't seem to be losing much energy either, so what's really going on?
I'll probably update this post if/when I come up with new ideas. In the (extremely unlikely) event that anyone sees these and feels inspired, I'd appreciate it if you'd run it by me before using the bunny/ies in a fic, though I wouldn't make a scene or anything even if you didn't. On the one hand, it's not like these are the world's most original plots, and OTOH, if I posted them publicly then I gotta accept the fact that they're not really my property any more, right? 😅
