30 Days of Guardian: Day 1

It might be a bit weird that my first post on Dreamwidth is for the Guardian 30 Days Meme, but I think it's quite fitting, since this show is the reason I have a DW account in the first place.

So! I'll be modifying or even completely changing some questions, not to mention cheating on a couple of them, but hopefully that's okay!

1. Favourite episode

Okay, so this is tough as hell because it'd be easier to point out the ones I didn't like, but I guess I'll be completely predictable and go with episode 8. Because:
1. The book-gifting scene and all that preceded it: Zhu Hong's jealous realisation that Zhao Yunlan is "unusually invested" in Shen Wei, Da Qing's "do you want to "buy" him that much?" followed by Yunlan's admission that he actually loves working with Shen Wei, Shen Wei proving that he'll put up with a hell of a lot from Zhao Yunlan but not deception/manipulation of this nature, one of Zhao Yunlan's schemes being totally PWN'ed for once...

2. Shen Wei fighting with Zhu Jiu in full Envoy Mode while wearing one of his best (and best-fitting!) outfits.

3. The taxi scene.

4. Shen Wei looking after Zhao Yunlan for the first time, and his exasperated annoyance while doing so that's born entirely out of concern for Yunlan and not the inconvenience caused to himself; and this is after Yunlan pulled that stunt with the books!

5. The conversation the following morning; especially Shen Wei's "So what the SID needs is a babysitter, not a consultant."

Oh, yep, feel free! I have no plans on making posts extraneous to Guardian anytime soon, so you won't be seeing anything irrelevant, either.

Shen Wei is so offended by Zhao Yunlan's fridge and I love it a lot. His impatient/despairing questioning of what Zhao Yunlan has eaten in the past two days is also wonderful.

It's hilarious to me that Shen Wei makes the snarky comment about the SID needing a babysitter when he has clearly already assumed responsibility for babysitting Zhao Yunlan of his own accord. You stayed over to fold Zhao Yunlan's pants and make him breakfast, my dude! Bad excuse!

You know, it just struck me that I really do love their early interactions the best. After episode 20 or so, both because the plot was gathering steam and because they became closer, the really funny and interesting moments reduced noticeably, and the rare conflicts between them were all uncomfortably personal. Of course, these are good signs that signal the development of a relationship, but I always did enjoy the preliminaries more than what happens after people become "established." *hands*

I saw a fic once where Da Qing says, "If he didn't run for the hills the first time he saw inside your fridge, he's never gonna go anywhere again," which I thought was the most brilliant observation XD

The taxi scene and then the look on shen Wei's face when he takes in Zhao Yunlan's apartment! They get me everytime. I love this ep a lot too.

It is such a fun episode! As much as I liked the Hallows plot thread and even the finale, the sheer charm of the pre-episode-20 stories is difficult to resist. When I think back on it, most of my favourite scenes are from before things started to get truly drastic.
